While all eyes (and intense media coverage) have been focused on Gustav, folks in the Carolinas and Virginia should pay more attention to another tropical system that’s gotten scarce coverage so far (that will change this coming week). Hanna is a relatively weak tropical storm as of this writing (8/31), and is expected to stay strength-challenged over the next few days. However, after midweek, she holds the potential to gather momentum, and steering currents aloft will eventually pull her northward. The timing and ultimate intensity of Hanna are still very much in question, though. At this early stage in the game, it appears that the odds would favor at least some, if not alot of rainfall for Virginia in the Friday or Saturday time frame. We’ll keep you posted.
