In a mostly benign summer weather-wise, it was a rough night for lots of Virginians. Huge thunderstorms hit hard, breaking the heat from a day that hit the mid 90s. There were numerous damage reports from the NWS:

I talked to the National Weather Service in Wakefield– they say they WILL NOT send out a survey team. All signs point to the damage being straight line winds. Keep in mind, straight line winds can often be more damaging than tornadoes.
