Record Low Highs *updated*

It ended up being 3 straight record low highs.  And it was almost 4!  Typical of our Autumn weather, we’re headed for some above average warmth this week.  Here are the details from the Wakefield NWS office:

OVER THE PAST SEVERAL DAYS…HIGH TEMPS HAVE BEEN MORE TYPICAL OF EARLY DECEMBER…AND HAVE BEEN ABOUT 15-20 DEG BLO AVG (2.5 TO  3.0 STD DEV BELOW AVG FOR MID OCTOBER).

OVER THE PAST FEW DAYS…

RICHMOND SET OR TIED NEW RECORD LOW MAXIMUM TEMPERATURES FOR THU THROUGH SAT. HIGH OF 50 SUN WAS REACHED AFTER THE EVE CLIMATE WAS  ISSUED SO RIC DID NOT BREAK THIS RECORD TODAY.

THIS MARKS ONLY THE SECOND TIME EVER THAT RICHMOND HAS HAD 3 CONSECUTIVE DAYS WITH MAX TEMPS BELOW 50 DEGREES. THE LAST TIME WAS OCTOBER 29 TO 31 1925. IT IS ALSO INTERESTING TO NOTE THAT 90 DEGREE  DAYS ARE MORE LIKELY IN OCTOBER THAN SUB 50 DEGREE DAYS.

Yes and now we go from that rather short cool spell in the 50s to a temperature swing of about 70 – 75 degree highs. I can already tell anyone reading this right now…. these radically fluctiating temperatures will go on throught out most,,,, if not the Entire winter. We’ll have a few days in the 40s- 50s,,,, and then the next week will be in the 70s – 80s,,,, then 1 or 2 days in 40s – 50s again,,,,, then another week of 70s,,,,,, this will happen the entire winter and in my personal opinion it is terrible whether because of the constant unpredictabilty and change

Lou, but that is what makes it so interesting around here. If you don’t like the weather, just stick around a few days…it will certainly change. I grew up in the midwest and believe me, long, cold, cloudy, snowy winters get on your nerves quicker than you would think. I do enjoy the snow when we get it but maybe that’s because I know it won’t stick around for weeks on end. 🙂

Good Question Mike. The NWS team is just referring to OCTOBER.

    • Mike says:

Thanks for the clarification Mr. Freiden. That certainly did not sound correct, especially when they said “ever”. If they would have said “ever for the month of October” that would have made more sense 🙂

  3. Mike says:

only the second time ever that Richmond had 3 consecutive days where the highs were below 50?? Does that include the winter months? Am I reading that correctly??

WHY ARE THOSE PEOPLE IN WAKEFIELD YELLING AT US??! DON’T THEY HAVE ANY MANNERS??!
