Part III of the Storm

Round one was the heavy burst of evening snow.

Round 2 was light sleet and rain between 1-9am in Richmond with snow continuing in Western/Northern Henrico and Chesterfield

Round 3 will be for the rest of the day.  It’s cold enough for snow again for the rest of the day.  Additional accumulations could be 4-8″ north of town.  In town, I think we’re winding down.  Could be another 2-4″ though.  It’ll come in bands through early afternoon  if it does.  NOT steady like yesterday

Just a heads up – the community closing list posted online does not necessarily include all the closing listed on tv. (As stated on the site: “Community Closings–
The closing shown on this page are in addition to those we air on television.
To review the television list, click here.”) And when you click the link to go to that list, you get a broken link error. (“The requested URL /wwbtwebftp/wwbtclosings.htm was not found on this server.”) Didn’t know where else to make note of the error. (And why is the list online not the same as on TV?)

  2. Mighty Dyckerson says:

Still coming down hard here in Essex Village.

  3. Sirius...The Star Dog says:

Just stopped by for a victory lap.

    STSD forecast: 7 – 9″
RICHMOND APRT 7.0 100 PM 12/19 RIC ASOS

Storm-total may be a tad higher when all is said and done given the late afternoon champagne shower from the upper LOW passing overhead.

  4. Harvey says:

About 3-4 inches here in Hopewell. Wish it was much more. If only some member of the weather crew had broken a wrist we would have had at least 6 inches.

  5. pcasey says:

Ditto the snowman. This was fun. Channel 12 WX guys thanx. Any predictions for Christmas Eve?

  6. Snowman says:

Looks like we’re all done now! Radar about dried up.
Not a bad snow storm though (about 13/14 inches for me in westend). And we still have jan/feb/march to go through! Until next time….. I’m out… C-ya …

  7. Chris says:

its still snowing here pretty good in eastern new kent area.

  8. Andy says:

I’m looking at the radar and it looks like the moisture is starting to wrap back this way across the state. Think we’ll see much more from the system?

  9. Love The Snow! says:

I love the snow! I wish it would continue a little longer…we don’t see it often in this area so I hate to see it end. I live in Bon Air, too, and we ended up with about 10″ around our neighborhood. The kids are having a blast!
Thanks to all of the hard working folks and NBC 12 for keeping us informed!

  10. Anne in Bon Air says:

Looks like total amounts here in Bon Air is 7″. Not the most compared to the ones further west. Is the storm over?

  11. Mike W says:

We had 12″ here in the West End (near Hungary and Francistown). Woke up to some sleet this morning, which turned back into snow pretty quickly. Still some off and on flurries but not much more accumulation since then. Had to take my son into work this morning (I hope the Short Pump Town Center doesn’t get a single customer today!)

But the real reason I wrote this post is to thank Andrew, Jim and the rest of the crew for all your hard work. Your hard work and activity on this blog shows that this is much more than just a job for you all. I can’t tell you how refreshing that is.

  12. Rick says:

I’m in Powhatan. We had just over 11″ on the ground this morning, and it’s still snowing but just barely. Looks like it’s about over. I think someone was right about the wraparound snow missing us. I’m relieved and disappointed at the same time.

  13. Elaine says:

at 11:30am in Gum Spring at 522 & 250 we have 16 inches and it’s still snowing.

  14. someonewithaclue says:

NAM WRF rh shield from last night and 12z Friday was off by 100 miles on the heavy wrap around snow for today…. much further to the north.

  15. Corrie says:

    Hey Andrew,

I think the worries I expressed to you earlier have come true. I think the woman ( sorry can’t remember her name ) you are sharing the stage with ought to update the hourly walk through. I am glad you get out of the way when that comes on the screen. Don’t think I could go through that prediction with a straight face.

Think it is POSSIBLE that some moisture could work itself back in there to fill in the gaps? The way things look, I would be surprised if this lasted another 3/4 hours.

  16. JT says:

Good work to the whole crew at NBC12. I’m originally from New England and even up there it’s hard to predict snowstorms and their extact totals. You guys do a great job and are the only local weather crew I’ll watch.

  17. Mighty Dyckerson says:

I’m waiting for Round 4, where the points are doubled and anything can happen.

    • Corrie says:

Well we have already seen 1 total troll in part 3 so in part 4, we could easily see 1-3 additional trolls.

Unfortunately it is so hard to predict. Right now we are thinking the trolls could change over to Ukrop shoppers right along Jim Duncan’s blog updates. That change over line could easily change though depending on whether some people get a life or not. Only the Lord and Mighty Dyckerson ( not one in the same obviously ) would know.

      • Mighty Dyckerson says:

That’s just precious. Don’t mess with me, pal. I got friends in high places.

      • Corrie says:

How are you so certain I was messing with you? Why would I ever do so a thing to YOU? You have friends in “high” places, oh I would never do anything to you.. That’s just crazy talk!

  18. joey says:

wow 4″ here in chester but my brother in law in Midlo says 10″. Always seems to happen to chester.
