Storms This Season Pack a Punch

This season’s storms are packing a punch, Even in Dallas!  From the NWS in Dallas, Texas:

RECORD 24-HOUR SNOW FOR FEBRUARY SET AT DALLAS FORT WORTH

DALLAS FORT WORTH AIRPORT RECORDED 11.2 INCHES OF SNOW FOR FEBRUARY 11…2010.  THIS BREAKS THE GREATEST CALENDAR DAY SNOW ON RECORD.   THE OLD RECORD WAS 7.8 INCHES SET ON JANUARY 15…1964 AND JANUARY 14…1917.

THE GREATEST ALL-TIME 24 HOUR SNOWFALL RECORD WAS ALSO BROKEN FROM 4 AM THURSDAY TO 4 AM FRIDAY. THE NEW RECORD IS 12.5 INCHES. THE OLD RECORD WAS 12.1 INCHES SET JANUARY 15 THROUGH JANUARY 16…1964.

While many in the Mid-Atlantic are sick of the snow, I’ll bet Texans are loving this!  My sister lives there and says it’s beautiful and they are having a great time playing in it.

This strong southern storm will spare the DC-Baltimore-Philly snow zone but will spread snow to Atlanta and the Carolinas today, potentially brushing Richmond with light snow tonight and Saturday morning.

It is still flurrying in western henrico near nuckols rd. and springfield rd. no significant accumulation

  2. Snowman-Shortpump area says:

10 new flakes of snow on my deck from this storm.

  3. Jonathan says:

Here’s an interesting radar that shows how the cloud cover is moving NNE instead of due east or slightly ENE as they had thought….thinking the 3″ looks pretty good for us now…

I wouldn’t call that an abundance; and although it is moving north, it’s moving even more east so it will likely clear us.

    • Chris says:

It was moving North east until it hit VA/NC line & it seems to be moving east more now….so i stand corrected

    • Jonathan says:

I think you’re giving up too early. There is a weak low pressure moving through the midwest which is helping to slightly “pull” the southern low’s moisture more northward. Still think we could end up with around 3″ at least on the southside. I’m in Brandermill in Chesterfield. Those north of the city that have been getting the extra few inches of snow with each of the last few storms might only see flurries…

  5. Chris says:

I’m looking on weather.com & national radar in motion shows an abundance of moisture headed NE toward Virginia….It “currently” looks like we are going to get more snow then anticipated….anyone else se this??

  6. Jonathan says:

Actually, just looked and Accuweather’s newest map has us within the 1-3 zone…

  7. Jonathan says:

Looking at how the storm system has been moving slower and listening to some forecasters…I think we’ll see at least 3″ of snow out of this southern Storm tomorrow and could be more. Look at the moisture already headed our way and how it’s trending more NE…not ENE like the charts have shown.

It’s obvious he says whatever he can to get a reaction. You guys are just feeding it by responding.

  9. David- West End says:

Looks like we may get hit a little harder than we thought this saturday! Looking more and more like the storm may be steered closer up the coast than first thought. Should know more later this afternoon.

    • Annie says:

Here’s what I’ve learned this winter:

      – If they call for nothing, expect flurries

      – If they call for flurries, expect at least 3 inches

      – if they call for light accumulations, expect a foot

      – If they call for significant accumulations, expect Dennis Quaid because it’s The Day After Tomorrow

(Note: the above is not a slam on any meteorologists; it’s simply commentary on this insane winter)

    • joe says:

I tend to agree with you. The moisture shield has certainly expanded north and west. We’ll see if that continues.

  10. Tristan says:

I hope it brings us tons of snow, lol.

  11. Mighty Dyckerson says:

Tell those fools at the NWS to STOP SHOUTING.

  12. Annie says:

My friend in Charleston, SC is so excited that they’re supposed to get a couple of inches of snow. The last time they had measurable snow was 2000 and it wouldn’t take much to give them a top 5 snowfall.

  13. Snowman-Shortpump area says:

I can’t tweak mine. They say what they say.

  14. JB says:

    Andrew,

Please tweak your models and keep this storm on its current southern track. It’s nice to see our southern neighbors get in on this snowy winter….
